Extrajudicial Killings In Bangladesh: by Nazma Mustafa

When the Awami League’s Sheikh Hasina formed her government in January 2009, within a short time, on February 25, 2009, the BDR Bangladesh Border Guards) was assigned to kill 57 talented military officers to fulfill certain agendas. The collapse and failure of Bangladesh are successfully grown under the tutelage of abnormal relationships.  After the BDR killings on April 19, 2014, Ilias Ali was kidnapped as an advance warning to the BNP (Banglaesh Nationalist Party) to refrain from anti-government movements. A certain Siddique’s abduction was aimed at keeping people from free thinking, as claimed by the BNP leader, Rizvi ( according to The Daily Star).

Environment lawyer, Syeda Rizwana Hasan’s husband, Abu Bakar Siddique, had been behind the disappearance of M.Ilias Ali as well. Referring to BNP’s long march to Teesta Barrage on March 22, would give a strong message to the government. Ilias Ali was abducted from outside his residence. He was a former lawmaker and organizing secretary of the BNP. He and his driver, Ansar Ali, were kidnapped from Banani in the capital on April 17, 2012 and remain missing since then. Armed kidnappers picked up Siddique on a Wednesday afternoon, releasing him on a Thursday.

People in Bangladesh have lost their freedom of speech and journalists have lost their voices. The Daily Star stated, “The two incidents were of the same nature. Both the incidents had a common objective — to deprive citizens of their rights,”. The truth is, it has been over six years that the government has not disclosed Siddique’s kidnappers’ identities.

“RAW trained Crusader 100 in action in Bangladesh” published in the Sri Lanka Guardian on April 23, 2012 by Jessica Fox. This tittle proved true. Abrar Fahad, a Buet (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology) student was killed after four hours of beating in his room after criticizing the government on Facebook. He wrote a post criticizing the government over a water sharing deal with India (BBC news, 9 October, 2019). His death has proven the government’s complete failure to ensure the safety of students.

Recently, Sinha Rashed Khan was killed within a minute or two (Daily Observer, Saturday 22 August 2020). Suspects are the Teknaf OC Pradeep Kumar Das, inspector Liyakat Ali and SI Nanda Dulal Rakshit. The series of events made it clear that in Bangladesh, it is very hard to get justice for such deaths. None of these incidents got a proper response perfectly or received proper judgments yet.

It is worth noticing that Sheikh Hasina did not forget to call Sinha’s mother for consolation and hasten the killing of her own father (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman). As such, she wants to show that a death justifies other deaths.

The country is under the control of people such as Nandalal Pradeep, corresponding to Awami League gangs. Individuals such as Pradeep Kumar Das will not be caught for their crimes, rather, they will be rewarded.

It was learned that he was recruited during the BNP era and was waiting for an opportunity. When the Awami League came to power, he became a giant tree from a tiny seedling plant. It also proves that Hindus were never neglected; they get jobs, which is an unbelievable dream for Muslims in India. On the contrary, due to the recent behavioral traits, most of them are brokers of Bangladesh’s neighbor country, India, proving to be very difficult for Bangladesh.

Currently, Bangladeshi Hindus are extra vocal and receive extra benefits and support from the government. OC Pradeep is accused of killing Sinha, and witnesses have testifies. In return, they have been receiving threats. On July 31 during night, Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was killed in police firing at a check post on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive.  In the name of drug eradication, many people have been made criminals and shot in cross-fires. Perhaps it’s not just Pradeep’s agenda; it fits with every past agenda of the conspired government. Media failed to put pressure on the government and cannot expose all injustices, but YouTube and other sources deliver the truth.

On Sinha’s birthday, he revealed some things to his older sister. He said that the false news of his retirement had been circulating for long. However, it was a lie, and he was probably forced to retire. He was an officer in charge of the Prime Minister’s Special Security Force (SSF). He had not spoken about this issue for the last one and half years. Now these reports have come to the notice of the detectives from their phone calls list.

These are just some in a very long list of extrajudicial killings in Bangladesh.
