CHRD Bangladesh is profoundly saddened by the brutal killing of Al Jazeera journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot dead by Israeli forces in cold blood. According to news reports, the violent death of Ms. Akleh occurred as she, along with other members of the press, was covering an Israeli military action today in the city of Jenin just north of the West Bank.
CHRD Bangladesh considers the shooting of a journalist while on duty with her press vest attire to be a significant assault to a free and independent media. The organization condemns in the strongest terms this heinous and targeted killing, which has sent shockwaves of grief for Ms. Akleh and outrage against the brutal Israeli occupying forces.
CHRD Bangladesh also calls for an independent, UN-sponsored investigation and demands justice against those involved in this tragic incident under international law.
May Ms. Akleh rest in peace and her family and loved ones find comfort in this extremely difficult time.
